Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is ready to announce that he is leaving the club to join Real Madrid.

Alexander-Arnold is out of contract at the end of the season with the Anfield club, with negotiations over a new deal rarely looking like they were going to come to a positive outcome with Arne Slot’s Premier League leaders.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, made their admiration of the England international star clear and have moved to close out the deal.

Alexander-Arnold is now ready to announce his departure to the Bernabeu side, according to TBR Football.

“Following months of agonising over his future, Trent Alexander-Arnold has now decided that he will leave his hometown club Liverpool this summer,” it states.

It is added that finances were not a major part in Alexander-Arnold’s decision, with the player instead electing to make the move because he is excited about a new challenge in a foreign league, while the lifestyle of living in Madrid, which close friend Jude Bellingham has no doubt discussed with him, is another major draw.

Real Madrid ready €40m January bid

Real Madrid are prepared up to €40 million to sign Alexander-Arnold during the January transfer window, the Spanish media reported on Wednesday.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side have a major void at right-back currently due to a long-term injury to Dani Carvajal. This prompted a €25m approach to Liverpool that was knocked back by the Anfield club, who are reportedly seeking to hold out for something like €70m for the player, despite the prospect of losing him for nothing in the summer.

Should Real Madrid be knocked back again, they have not discounted the prospect of seeking another player around this price point.

Alexander-Arnold is their long-term right-back, with the Liverpool star now all set to announce his decision in the near future.
