Xavi Simons SEALS shock €80m transfer – but there’s an ‘EXPLOSIVE’ twist

Xavi Simons committed his future by signing a permanent deal with RB Leipzig in a transfer from PSG worth €80 million – but there could be a dramatic sting in the tail of this deal.

PSG confirmed the move while adding: "Paris Saint-Germain wishes Xavi Simons every success for the rest of his career" on their official website.

Constant speculation has surrounded the Netherlands international for months, with the 21-year-old making it clear that he did not want to remain at PSG.

Interest has been intense from the Premier League, with Arsenal and Manchester United particularly linked with the exciting playmaker.

Simons, though, will remain in Leipzig at least for now. Sky Sport Deutschland reports that he will sign a permanent deal with the club that will run through until the summer of 2027.

RB Leipzig will pay an initial €50m to PSG for the player, with up to €30m following in bonus payments, although it is added that it is “unrealistic” that this full figure will be hit.

Indeed, Sport Bild suggests that this deal is unlikely to put an end to the constant speculation surrounding the player in what is described as an “explosive” detail.

It states that this agreement does not mean that Simons will necessarily be with the Red Bull-owned side in the long term. It adds that Simons could even be subject to a transfer in the summer should a suitable offer be made.

Expect to see links to Arsenal and Man Utd persist as a result.

Why has this deal happened?

PSG need to free up a loan slot in their squad and by selling Simons permanently, they can do that. FIFA rules mean that only six of these are allowed – as Manchester City recently found to their cost.

By offloading Simons, PSG have also received a substantial windfall they can reinvest in the transfer market.

From Leipzig’s point of view, they have acquired a valuable asset who was due to leave them in the summer. Now the player’s future is in their hands: they can either keep him to build a team around or seek to sell him to make a quick profit.

With an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €64m, the Bundesliga side have got themselves a bargain at an initial €50m.

Simons, who spent years in the Barcelona youth academy before moving to PSG, has endured a frustrating campaign that has seen him limited to 17 appearances.
