Arsenal may reportedly struggle to sign Athletic Club winger Nico Williams this summer, despite significant interest in the Spain star.

Williams, 22, is Arsenal’s priority transfer target for the upcoming window and Mikel Arteta is desperate to bring him to north London in a bid to bolster his forward line.

Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard are both solid options on the left flank, however Arsenal are hoping to bring Williams to the club as they look to end their Premier League trophy drought.

We have been informed that Arsenal are prepared to pay in excess of Williams’ €58 million release clause to land him later this year, and David Ornstein has revealed that a move could take place this summer.

However, The Athletic have now claimed that Arsenal may need to secure a substantial sale in order to afford a deal.

Martin Zubimendi and Benjamin Sesko are also key summer targets for the Gunners, and the north London giants could be forced to offload at least one key name if they want to sign all three players in 2025.

Oleksandr Zinchenko, Jakub Kiwior, Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira and Reiss Nelson could all be sold by Arsenal this summer, while Thomas Partey and Jorginho are set to leave when their contracts expire, which will free up space in the club’s wage budget.

Nico Williams to Arsenal?

Williams only has four goals and five assists in 30 appearances across all competitions so far this season, but he is still regarded as one of Europe’s best wingers.

He enjoyed a sublime Euro 2024 with Spain last summer and Arsenal are primed to sign him to form a deadly wing duo with Bukayo Saka.

Williams has less than two-and-a-half years remaining on his current contract at Athletic Club, while his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at €71.2m.
