Now the 26-year-old Disasi will join Villa, the Daily Mail reports, following a transfer saga that has been full of twists and turns.
The France international defender is set to move to the Champions League hopefuls via a loan deal, having turned down the opportunity to go to Tottenham.
Taking to X, Matt Law reports: “Aston Villa have an agreement in place to sign Axel Disasi on loan for the rest of the season from Chelsea. Player heading to Villa.”
The move has also been confirmed by The Athletic, which adds that Villa will pay around €6 million (£5m) to loan the player until the summer and have no buy option.

Axel Disasi crazy transfer window
For a period it seemed to be Spurs or bust for the former Monaco star, despite Disasi first agreeing terms with Aston Villa. A deal could not be struck with Chelsea, with reports suggesting that they were seen as too much of a rival for a Champions League spot for a move to be sanctioned.
There has evidently been some shift, as now Disasi is getting the move to Villa Park that he wants, solving a huge headache for Emery’s side.
Aston Villa had allowed Diego Carlos to join Fenerbahce earlier in the window but had laboured to find a replacement.
Sevilla’s Loic Bade was the first serious track they studied, yet the deal broke down just as it seemed they had got it over the line.
The same appeared to have happened with Disasi until this remarkable shift that will see the €45m signing move to the Midlands at least until the end of the season.
He joins new additions Donyell Malen, Andres Garcia, Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio at Aston Villa, with the club having notably allowed Jhon Duran to leave for Al-Nassr.
