Chelsea will return for Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens in the summer, according to a report.

One of the Blues' goals for the January transfer window was to add a left-winger following Mykhailo Mudryk's provisional suspension after allegedly failing a drug test.

However, Chelsea ultimately only signed Mathis Amougou - a central midfielder - and did not bolster their attacking ranks despite talks with several potential options.

The Blues briefly considered Karim Adeyemi of Borussia Dortmund, while his teammate Jamie Gittens was also the subject of an enquiry. But the former decided that he did not want to leave mid-season and the latter had an inflated €100 million price tag slapped on his head.

More prominently, Chelsea pursued a move for Alejandro Garnacho after being made aware that Man Utd could be willing to consider a sale due to their financial situation.

Talks began even before the window opened and his agents made a public appearance at Stamford Bridge, but the Blues baulked at the Red Devils €70m asking price.

Chelsea to reignite winger pursuit

In the summer, wonderkids Estevao and Kendry Paez will link up with Enzo Maresca's squad. The former is expected to immediately assume a prominent No.10 role, although it will be interesting to see how the head coach fits him and Cole Palmer into the same side.

Despite these reinforcements, Chelsea could reignite their pursuit of a left-winger in the summer, according to the Daily Mail. The conversations that were held with the likes of Garnacho and Gittens laid the groundwork for future moves.

Gittens, in particular, will be one to watch. He is expected to leave Dortmund if they don't qualify for the Champions League. They are currently languishing in 11th in the Bundesliga, although the points gap between them and RB Leipzig in fourth is only four.

As for Garnacho, it remains to be seen if he can become an 'untouchable' again at Man Utd. Ruben Amorim has praised his willingness to learn and work hard - as opposed to Marcus Rashford - and has repeatedly insisted that he wants to keep him.
