Secret release clause could pave way for SHOCK Haaland summer transfer
Erling Haaland’s future could still be thrown into doubt despite the striker signing a new nine-and-a-half year contract with Manchester City last month.
Haaland raised eyebrows by penning a new deal until 2034, having previously suggested he would eventually look to leave City and continue his dominance in more of Europe’s top leagues.
City have endured a difficult campaign so far, with Pep Guardiola’s side currently sitting two points outside of the top four in the Premier League and potentially missing out on a place in next season’s Champions League.

The failure to qualify for Europe’s premier competition would be a massive shock to the 2023 winners but it could lead to an unprecedented situation where Haaland would be allowed to leave City for a cut-price fee.
According to Catalan outlet El Nacional, Haaland has a release clause in his new deal that comes into place if City fail to qualify for the Champions League.
It is currently unclear how much the release clause is worth or whether it would be active so soon after Haaland’s renewal, however the Norwegian could be tempted with offers to leave City in such a situation.
Barca will do ‘everything possible’ to seal ‘dream’ Haaland signing
City are still also facing uncertainty surrounding their ongoing battle with the Premier League, with the findings over their 115 charges likely to be revealed towards the end of the season.
The combination of a significant punishment to City as well as a failure to qualify for the Champions League could be enough for Haaland to consider his future and Barcelona are likely to be frontrunners for his signature in such an outcome.
Barca president Joan Laporta has a long-standing interest in bringing Haaland to the club but the financial situations have never allowed for a realistic attempt to sign the 24-year-old.
While Barca are still incapable of financing a move for Haaland, the La Liga giants believe their situation could improve in the future and they would do ‘everything possible’ to secure Laporta’s ‘dream signing’.
Haaland is not believed to be seriously considering an exit from City no matter how their season unfolds but the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain would also push for his signature if the prolific forward were to become available at any point in the near future.
