Manchester United are edging closer to their first summer signing after reports that they are ‘advancing’ in talks for a player who Ruben Amorim has demanded the club secure the purchase of.

United will look to make wholesale changes to their squad in the summer in order to build around Amorim’s vision and tactical style despite their woeful start to life under their new manager.

The Red Devils currently sit 15th and have lost eight of their 15 Premier League matches under Amorim, however United are determined to support their under-fire coach with players more suited to his philosophy.

Having signed a left wing-back in Patrick Dorgu in January, United will address the other flank in the summer and Amorim’s top target is Geovany Quenda, whom he worked with at Sporting.

The 17-year-old is having a breakout season for Sporting, having been given his debut by Amorim, but is keen on a reunion with his former manager at United, with Portuguese super agent Jorge Mendes involved in negotiations.

And, according to GIVEMESPORT, talks are ‘advancing’ between United and Sporting, although both teams are still sticking to their respective valuations and a deal has not been struck yet.

United desperate to raise funds to sign Quenda

Quenda only made his Sporting debut this season, with Amorim praising the teenager for his maturity in adapting to a role at right wing-back, in which he has flourished in.

The Portuguese star has already been called up to his country’s senior squad, prompting Sporting to demand more than €40 million for their talismanic wonderkid.

United are willing to sign Quenda but the club’s financial issues means that they cannot afford to stray too far from their own price point without first selling some of their fringe players.
