When Manchester United offloaded Antony to Real Betis on loan during the transfer window, Ruben Amorim’s side appeared to be getting rid of a dud.
The Brazil international could do little right at Old Trafford. There were no doubts about his attitude, but his execution was poor and failed to live up to the billing of the €95 million the club had shelled out for him in 2023.

Antony has quickly settled into a new home in Spain and has rapidly shown the type of form that saw Man Utd splash out on him.
The 24-year-old was named Man of the Match in each of his first two LaLiga outings for the Seville outfit, then on Thursday played a leading role as Real Betis thumped Gent 3-0 in Belgium to all but secure their place in the next round of the Conference League. He already has two goals for the Spanish side – more than he managed during his six months at Old Trafford.
Now Antony has revealed the secret of his success in Spain.
“I was very prepared when the chance came to sign for Betis,” he said. “I had a hard time. In my heart, I was 100% sure I’d be happy here. That’s the most important thing for my family and I. If you’re happy, things flow naturally.”
Already he has won over his team-mates.
“We knew a great player was joining us, someone who could help us a lot,” Giovani Lo Celso said. “I think he’s performing brilliantly.”

Antony’s faith rewarded
In celebrating his goal on Thursday, Antony lifted his shirt to reveal Psalm 57:5 from the Bible:
“Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.”
Antony scored again tonight 👀
See what can happen when a player gets away from our reactive toxic fanbase and from media who hammer him for doing a spin 🤔

It speaks volumes to the ongoing belief that Antony has that he will rediscover his best form and become the type of player Man Utd thought they were buying.
This is great news for the Red Devils. The winger will return to Old Trafford at the end of the season as Real Betis do not have a purchase option, and if he maintains his current level, he could become a real asset at Old Trafford.
