Manchester United will have watched on with interest as Antony has made a flying start on loan at Real Betis, with the agent of the player dropping an update on the future of the Brazil international to Fabrizio Romano.

Antony was shipped out by Man Utd in January as he had fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, where they were anxious to save on his sizeable wage.

He had struggled to produce his best form at any point during his spell with the Premier League side, who he joined in 2023 from Ajax in a blockbuster €95 million deal.

In Spain, though, the story is very different. He has claimed back-to-back Man of the Match awards in LaLiga and has scored two goals in three games – more than he had managed in the whole first half of the season with the Red Devils.

Will Antony return to Man Utd?

“I can confirm there’s no buy option clause in the contract. So Antony will be a Manchester United player from July,” Antony’s agent Junior Pedroso told Romano.

“Antony respects Amorim a lot, for sure. But we understood in January that his moment at the club was not good, so Manchester United also understood that leaving on loan was the best way for Antony to recover his best form.

“He’s back at his real level.”

Spanish football greatly strengthens Antony

With Real Betis handpicked as the ideal club for Antony to get back to his level, Pedroso has at least dropped a hint that a permanent stay somewhere in Spain could be the next step in the career of the 24-year-old if he does indeed leave United.

“I believe that football is very dynamic. There are no long-term plans to be made. There may still be a few more chapters in his story with Manchester United, or there may not be. This will depend on many factors involving decisions by the club and him in the near future,” he admitted.

“I can tell you that clubs from England also wanted Antony, he had the chance to stay in the Premier League, but we preferred Real Betis. I can also reveal that Saudi Pro League clubs approached us over potential moves. It was another option but Spain was the best possible for the player.

“Spanish football greatly strengthens Antony's main technical and physical characteristics. He has more freedom to use all his skills to the advantage of efficiency in attack.”
