Manchester United staff members have been warned they could be sacked if they are found guilty of leaking information to the media.

Several leaks have taken place at Old Trafford since Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival and chief executive Omar Berrada has launched an investigation into those responsible.

According to The Telegraph, Berrada sent a 580-word email to staff members this week, detailing that revealing club information to the press will be considered as “gross misconduct” and could result in them being fired.

The email reportedly read: “Anyone disclosing information outside of the club is breaching their obligations of confidentiality, and we are very clear that this will be considered gross misconduct.

“To protect the club and its colleagues, additional measures are being put in place to prevent future breaches of confidentiality and also identify any persons responsible.”

Man Utd have made severe cuts since Ratcliffe’s arrival, with 250 staff already made redundant and a further 100 set to join them, and the club are eager for such decisions to be kept away from the media.

The Red Devils were forced to spend around €17.5 million on sacking Erik ten Hag and his staff last year, while a further €4.8m was spent on hiring and firing Dan Ashworth.

As a result, Ratcliffe is aiming to cut down expenses to a bare minimum, with the aim of improving the club’s fortunes on the pitch.

Man Utd’s current woes

Man Utd are currently 15th in the Premier League table, having only picked up 29 points from 25 games, and they are extremely unlikely to secure any form of European football next season unless they win the Europa League.

Amorim’s side will face Real Sociedad in the last-16 of that competition and could face Tottenham Hotspur in the final if they both advance through the knockout stages.
