Manchester United have reportedly identified Liam Delap as their “top target” amid Ruben Amorim’s push to bring a new striker to the club.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee were both named on the substitutes bench for Man Utd’s 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday, with Kobbie Mainoo selected as a false nine instead, and Amorim is eager for the Red Devils to sign a centre-forward by the end of Deadline Day.

The Ipswich Town star has scored nine goals in 23 Premier League games so far this season, and Chelsea are extremely interested in finalising a deal to sign him this summer.

Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are also eager to land Delap in 2025, however Man Utd are hoping to win the race for his signature after failing to agree a deal for Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel.

Liam Delap to leave Ipswich?

Despite significant transfer interest in the forward, Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna has insisted that Delap will leave Portman Road during the winter window.

Last month, he told reporters: “In terms of January, we’ve got no interest in anything other than Liam being at the football club and he’s got no interest in putting focus into anything other than playing for Ipswich Town and trying to get better every week.

“Other than that, as a football club, I think we need to take pride that players are coming here and improving, and that the best teams in the world are looking at some of our players because of the level that they are operating at,” McKenna added.

“Liam is certainly one of those, but not the only one. That’s something that, as a club, we should be really, really proud of, but at this current time, everyone’s eyes are focused on having a strong second half of the season here.”
