There was an unexpected delay to the Denmark international’s transfer, but he jetted into Manchester on Saturday morning and now the club only need to make the deal official, with Sky Sports reporting that the 20-year-old is poised to sign his contract with the Red Devils.

“Patrick Dorgu has arrived at Manchester United’s Carrington training ground ahead of his move from Lecce,” it is reported.

“The 20-year-old left back will become Ruben Amorim’s first signing at United.

“Dorgu has already completed his medical.”

Dorgu will become Man Utd's second first-team signing following the arrival of Ayden Heaven from Arsenal.

Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa latest

Rashford’s loan switch to Aston Villa, meanwhile, is not quite so close to competition.

This is a deal that United will be anxious to get over the line due to a lack of other options. Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund were both priced out of a move, leaving Aston Villa and a mystery Premier League club interested in the England forward.

“There was lots of interest in Marcus Rashford in this transfer window, but only two viable proposals - from Aston Villa and a second unnamed Premier League club,” Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth said.

“The other approaches required United to cover a substantial portion of Rashford’s wages - something they were not prepared to do, as the will to leave has come from the player.

“While Rashford’s preference earlier this window was to go to Barcelona, a move to Villa will satisfy his desire to play Champions League football.”

Rashford to Villa is not a foregone conclusion, although reports indicate that a deal is ‘close’.

Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim has already selected Rashford’s replacement at Old Trafford in anticipation of the deal.
