Manchester United are set for a summer purge of their under-performing squad and Mickael Silvestre believes that only six players are safe from the chop.

United have suffered one of the worst seasons in their entire history and they are currently languishing in 15th position in the table with 10 games remaining.

Out of the FA Cup and League Cup, United’s only hope for silverware or qualifying for Europe is through the Europa League as they are currently in the last 16.

Manager Ruben Amorim’s future is very much in doubt after a dismal start to his reign since replacing Erik ten Hag in November.

What is for sure is that United do not have massive amounts of money to spend this summer as their financial situation is precarious.

They will have to sell players in order to raise the cash to buy new players.

And with United performing so badly, the plan is to purge the squad this summer in order to create a team that is able to challenge the top of the Premier League again.

Former United defender Silvestre, who was part of the glory days under Sir Alex Ferguson, believes that only five current members of the squad are safe from this purge.

These players are Bruno Fernandes, Amad Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, Noussair Mazraoi and Patrick Dorgu.

What did Silvestre say?

"Bruno is committed, he wants to fight. You also have players like Amad Diallo, who has been a tremendous and a wonderful player – he has been the breakout star at United this season,” Silvestre told Yaysweepstakes.

"The emergence of Kobbie Mainoo is encouraging, Alejandro Garnacho is finding his feet, Noussair Mazraoui has had a decent first season then with Patrick Dorgu, let’s wait and see.

"United have players that look like they will be stars in the future. These players are going to hopefully be part of the next generation, Amorim’s first proper team, because at the moment, he’s the manager, but these are not his players.

"It's a big job at United for Amorim in the summer. I think all of the guys I mentioned can be part of things moving forward, they can be part of the rebuild."

Man Utd’s next game is on Sunday against Arsenal.
