Ruben Amorim has confirmed that Manchester United will need to sell several first-team players in order to afford new signings this summer.

The Red Devils are currently languishing down in 13th place in the Premier League table and they have been tipped to sign a number of high-profile stars during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Sporting CP pair Geovany Quenda and Viktor Gyokeres have been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford later this year, while Amorim is expected to bring a new central midfielder to the club amid the uncertain futures of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.

However, the Man Utd boss has admitted that his side won’t be able to fund the purchases of any new additions unless significant sales are made this summer.

Ahead of the Red Devils’ Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, Amorim told reporters: “Here it's simple: to do something we need to sell players.”

Marcus Rashford (Aston Villa), Antony (Real Betis) and Tyrell Malacia (PSV Eindhoven) all left Old Trafford on loan during the January transfer window, after failing to impress Amorim, and they could be sold on permanent deals later this year.

In addition, Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho have both been linked with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks, with Man Utd potentially set to offload at least one big-name academy graduate in 2025.

Man Utd’s recent transfer business

Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven arrived at Man Utd from Lecce and Arsenal respectively during the January window, but Amorim has admitted his side needed to take caution due to recent mistakes in the market.

Mason Mount, Rasmus Hojlund and the aforementioned Antony have all joined the Red Devils for huge transfer fees over the past few years, yet they have failed to impress upon their arrival at Old Trafford.

This summer, Man Utd are therefore expected to be quiet on the incoming front unless they are able to finalise several big-money sales.
