Amorim’s favourite player is why Man Utd need to keep faith in misfiring coach

Ruben Amorim has only made one signing as Manchester United head coach, but the way in which that deal is panning out should provide optimism to both the Portuguese and the long-suffering Old Trafford fans that there are brighter days ahead.
It’s been a nightmare season for the Red Devils, who lie deep in the bottom half of the Premier League standings, having only regressed since the decision to sack Erik ten Hag and replace him with Amorim.

The former Sporting CP boss has been adamant that the players must fit into his favoured 3-4-3 system, meaning that an overhaul of the squad is necessary in order to optimise the impact of the new boss.
That will mean signing numerous new players given the particular way in which Amorim plays.
This could be a risky endeavour given Man Utd’s record of having more misses than hits in the transfer market lately, but while the coach struggles to gain credibility with his performances, he can at least point to the record of signings under him as being positive.

Patrick Dorgu is the only player to have joined the Red Devils since he took over in November, and there is little doubt that the Lecce man, who was picked up for €30 million, has looked the part.
Not only has he shown the physical and technical attributes that Amorim demands, but he has also shown the type of strong mentality that has too often been lacking in Man Utd players in recent years.

Dorgu a case study in what Amorim’s recruitment can bring
Amorim is set to use the 20-year-old as a case study when lobbying for more new signings.
"I am happy with Patrick because he has the abilities that we look for him when I saw him at Lecce," Amorim said.
"He has the physicality, the technique. He is playing better on the left, as you guys said. He has a lot to improve on, but the good thing is during the difficult moments, you see the good things in Patrick.
"That’s what you want when you recruit players. We address that issue about recruitment, we are happy with him."
Dorgu was a shining light against Everton even as Man Utd slumped to a 2-0 deficit last weekend before fighting back to salvage a point.
It is this type of fighting spirit that Amorim wants more of in his side, and if he can secure two or three more signings that prove as successful, the Red Devils will rapidly find themselves in a much-improved position, with the pressure eased on everyone at the club.
