A €60 million asking price is being floated for the Portugal under-21 international despite Quenda having a €100m release clause in his contract.

Quenda is contracted to Sporting until 2027, having signed a renewal in September, but he is being actively marketed to Europe’s leading clubs, with the teenager expected to be offered to Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Barcelona and others.

His ascent has been so rapid that he already looks set for a move to a Champions League club or - in United’s case - a Champions League aspirant.

Quenda has played 35 games for Sporting’s first team, scoring twice and providing six assists.

Amorim eyeing Quenda reunion at Old Trafford

Born in Guinea-Bissau before moving to Portugal as a child, Quenda broke into the Sporting first team earlier this season with Amorim deploying the teenager at right wing-back.

He is a quick, direct player and is seen by Amorim as fulfilling the same kind of function as Patrick Dorgu, who was signed from Lecce for an initial €30m in the January transfer window.

Quenda began this season on the right side of a 3-4-3 formation but under new Sporting coach Rui Borges has been used on the left side of midfield.

“Amorim likes to have wing-backs playing as inverted wing-backs,” Duncan Castles tells The Transfers Podcast. “You have the left-footed player on the right and the right-footed player on the left.

“If he can get Quenda in, that would give him the ability to play both sides of his 3-4-3 system.

“In his idea, you have a player on the wing who can not only go directly up the flanks, but when he's passing will pass into the attacking spaces that are being created by the two number 10s.”

It remains to be seen if United can finance a deal for Quenda and convince the player that his interests are best served at Old Trafford.
