Arsenal have been in desperate search for a striker in recent times but one of of their biggest transfer mistakes could be set to backfire further after a shock development over his future.

The Gunners have endured an injury crisis in attack in recent months, having lost Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka to long-term injuries, leaving Mikel Arteta to field a makeshift front line, particularly up front.

The likes of Ethan Nwaneri, Mikel Merino and even left-back Riccardo Calafiori have been spotted playing the number nine role across the past few games, with Arsenal paying the price for not bringing in a specialist striker since Jesus’ signing in 2022.

Arsenal have also let a number of forwards leave the club during this time such as Folarin Balogun and Eddie Nketiah but arguably the one they will regret the most was a sale that went under the radar during the summer.

Mika Biereth joined Arsenal’s academy in 2021 but failed to make a senior appearance for the club before being sold to Sturm Graz for €9 million, where he had a successful loan spell last season.

However, after scoring 11 goals in 16 games for the Austrian side, Biereth was sold to Monaco in January for €13m where has had a blistering start of scoring ten times in his first seven league games and things could get even better for the 22-year-old.

FA tracking Biereth development

According to the Daily Mail, Biereth could be in line for a shock call-up to the England squad in the near future after his meteoric rise in the past year.

Biereth has already featured for Denmark’s under-19 and under-21 sides however the youngster was born in London and is therefore eligible to play for England still.

The FA are understood to be ‘aware’ of Biereth’s ability and are tracking his development, although the expectation is that he will remain committed to Denmark for the time being.

Speaking of his international allegiance recently, Biereth said: “It's a unique situation. There are not many players who can play for four countries.

“My mother was born and raised in Bosnia, my father is Danish-German, and I have lived in England.”
