Enzo Fernandez makes SHOCK Chelsea decision after team-mate plea

Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez has reportedly rejected the advances of Atletico Madrid in favour of remaining at Chelsea.

Fernandez, who moved to Stamford Bridge for a whopping €121 million back in January 2023, has just over seven years left on his current deal with the west London giants, but he has been heavily linked with an exit over the past 12 months.

Real Madrid are known admirers of the 24-year-old, while Atletico Madrid are the latest elite European club to register their interest in his services.

In fact, several Atletico Madrid players attempted to convince Fernandez to move to the Wanda Metropolitano during the March international break.

That is according to Diario AS reporter Eduardo Burgos, who claims that Fernandez has rejected a move to Atleti as he is “determined” to remain at Chelsea.

Five Atletico Madrid stars were included in Argentina’s squad for the March internationals - Nahuel Molina, Rodrigo de Paul, Giuliano Simeone, Angel Correa and Julian Alvarez - and they were reportedly eager to convince Fernandez to join them in the Spanish capital this summer.

However, their request fell on deaf ears, with Fernandez set to snub a move to the Spanish giants in order to remain under the tutorship of Enzo Maresca.

Despite Fernandez’s desire to continue his spell at Stamford Bridge, “all options are open” for the upcoming summer transfer window, although linking up with compatriot Diego Simeone is reportedly off the table.

Fernandez has made 97 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea, scoring 12 goals and providing 14 assists, while his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €74.2m.

Pablo Barrios (Atletico Madrid) and Aurelien Tchouameni (Real Madrid) have both been linked with a move to Chelsea in recent months, with rumours suggesting they could be involved in a swap deal with Fernandez as the Blues consider a sale.
