The Portugal U21 star was a player that Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim was believed to be very interested in for the summer, and indeed there were reports from Portugal that the Red Devils have already completed a move for the 17-year-old talent.

These have proven off the mark, with Chelsea now poised to land one of the breakout talents in European football, according to Romano.

Quenda will not complete his move to the Blues until 2026, but otherwise everything is in place for the transfer, which has come as a complete surprise.

Taking to X, Romano tweeted: “Chelsea agree deal for Portuguese top talent Geovany Quenda, here we go!

“Medical DONE for Quenda after secret blitz; he will join Chelsea in 2026.

“Club to club agreement completed with Sporting and Quenda said yes to Chelsea project & Enzo Maresca’s plans.”

Quenda: A flourishing talent

Quenda was handed his professional debut by Amorim at the beginning of the season and has gone on to play 43 times for Sporting this season, scoring two goals and generating a further eight assists.

He has seen his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) rise from just €200,000 last summer to €39.5 million currently, highlighting the explosion in his form. It was reported in January that Amorim had asked Man Utd to make a bid worth €42m to secure the player.

Romano has not made it clear what Chelsea will ultimately pay for the player, yet one interesting facet of the deal is that he will stay with Sporting for an additional year. As Quenda turns 18 on 30 April, he could have made the transfer in the summer.
