Fabrizio Romano has given the latest football transfer news on a host of topics at Arsenal, Liverpool, Real Madrid and more.

Alexander Isak transfer latest

Romano has detailed the situation of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, confirming the interest of both Arsenal and Liverpool in the Sweden hitman.

Looking at the Gunners’ options in attack, he told his YouTube channel: “I wanted to confirm that there are two names for the striker position at Arsenal. One is Alexander Isak, the priority target. But Liverpool are also closely monitoring the position of the player.

“It really depends on what Newcastle want to do for the player. If you talk to them today, they insist the player is not for sale and untouchable. But when these clubs arrive with important proposals, we have to see what kind of number we will give them. Forget about €70,80,90 million – it will have to be more than that.

“For Arsenal, Isak is an obsession. He’s a player they’ve wanted for a long time. Absolutely considered fantastic by Mikel Arteta.

“And the other name remains Benjamin Sesko. He’s a completely different price. Arsenal are aware of the player, the cost and the desire to finally move after he said no to all the opportunities one year ago. Sesko is at the top of the list with Alexander Isak.”

Saliba confirms Real Madrid stance

William Saliba has no intention of leaving Arsenal, despite interest from Real Madrid, who are ready to pay a world-record fee for the France international centre-back.

“William Saliba wanted to clarify before PSV. It’s really, really important. First of all, Saliba said that we’re not in talks over a new deal. It’s also important to say that he wanted to continue at Arsenal. This is the message he’s sending in public and private. He’s telling Arsenal not to panic because we’ve had many reports about Real Madrid.

“I confirmed to you that Real Madrid appreciate Saliba. They see him as the Bellingham of defenders. They see him as a fantastic defender and a fantastic opportunity, but it’s not something being negotiated now. For Mikel Arteta and new sporting director Andrea Berta, Saliba is considered an absolutely crucial player. They want to win things together.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold confirmation

There is no change in plan on the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold at Real Madrid, with an offer lodged for the Liverpool defender some time ago, Romano says.

“In Real Madrid, all the questions are about Trent Alexander-Arnold,” he said. “He’s had an offer from Real Madrid since a long time ago.

“Real Madrid are absolutely convinced to go for him. They consider him a marquee signing. They’ve already discussed him internally. He’s option one, two, three, but also four and five for the right-back position. Real Madrid will go very strong for Trent. Liverpool will try to the end to extend his contract.”

Liverpool are in a stronger position over Virgil van Dijk, however.

Romano said: “Virgil van Dijk is very clear again. He said there was no news. He said: ‘If someone is telling you something is done one way or the other, it’s not true, he’s a liar.’ He’s still negotiating with Liverpool. The Reds internally insist on keeping him at the club. Liverpool remain confident – it’s too early to say relaxed. Still nothing is agreed but Van Dijk is speaking with the club.”

Kimmich signs new Bayern deal

Joshua Kimmich has ended any speculation building over his future but putting pen to paper on a new deal with Bayern Munich, Romano says.

“Joshua Kimmich has signed a new deal with Bayern. Everything is OK. All the documents have been exchanged and a deal until 2029 is agreed. It was the summer of 2024 that PSG tried for Kimmich and there was no way. They didn’t try now. There were some rumours of Arsenal, but they didn’t have a director of football at that point. But Kimmich is not going to Arsenal or PSG, he’s staying at Bayern, which is what he wanted.”

Pogba is back at last

Romano also gave an update on Paul Pogba, who is finally able to play again.

“Paul Pogba is officially allowed to play professional football again. He’s available as a free agent, he’s ready to return,” he said. “There’s still no agreement with any team, despite the rumours of the done deal with Manchester United and these sorts of stories. Nothing is decided.

“He’s training in Miami with the idea of returning as soon as possible to the pitch. Let’s follow what’s next.”
