But Salah looks set to end fears that he will also leave Anfield by committing his future to the Premier League champions in waiting.

The 32-year-old, who has spearheaded their campaign and has been the runaway star in England’s top-flight this term, with 32 goals and 22 assists across 42 games in all competitions, is in “advanced” talks with Liverpool, according to Masrawy.

An unnamed source explained to the Egyptian outlet: “Liverpool have opened negotiations with Rami Abbas, Mohamed Salah’s agent to renew the Egyptian star’s contract with the club.

“Negotiations between Liverpool and Abbas are much more advanced this time than ever before, and the offer made to the player is higher than any offers ever before.”

Alexander-Arnold keeps Salah at Liverpool with Real Madrid decision

Salah, it seems, will not follow Trent Alexander-Arnold out of the Anfield exit, and indeed the right-back’s decision to depart for Real Madrid is actually helping Liverpool retain their ace, according to the source.

“Trent Alexander-Arnold’s imminent departure from Liverpool will be a major factor in Salah’s contract renewal. It will cause a reduction in the club’s salary, allowing Salah to be given what he desires for his new contract with the Reds,” Masrawy was told.

If Salah does indeed sign a new deal with Liverpool, it will mark a remarkable U-turn in his thinking as he has previously suggested that this will be his final year at Anfield.

“I just want them to remember that I was here for eight years and I gave everything,” he told TNT Sports after a 1-0 win over Newcastle in February. “I want the fans to remember that I gave everything for them, everything for this city. I loved football, I gave everything for it and I wasn't lazy. I think that's what it's about, they give you love, you have a connection with the fans because you give everything.”

Salah’s dramatic change of heart will be welcomed at Liverpool, particularly after the Trent bombshell.
