Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on the development of Adam Wharton, according to a report.

The Crystal Palace midfielder has had a stop-start season due to injury but he recently returned to the pitch with a bang. Wharton's performances of late have been nothing short of excellent.

The 21-year-old is building on the promise he showed last season, which not only earned him a move to the Premier League but even saw him make the trip to Germany with England's Euro 2024 squad.

The former Blackburn Rovers wonderkid is playing himself into the spotlight once again and his good form hasn't gone unnoticed. Wharton has been linked with a host of bigger Premier League sides but it seems that he also has admirers outside of Britain.

Real Madrid want Wharton

According to the Daily Mail, Real Madrid scouts have made regular checks on Wharton since his return from injury. The interest, it is claimed, is driven by influential chief scout Juni Calafat.

Los Blancos will continue to monitor his performances with a view to a potential summer transfer, although the club's priority remains to strengthen the defence.

The Spanish giants, who already boast Jude Bellingham in their midst, have also been credited with an interest in fellow England starlet Jarrad Branthwaite, who was handed his senior Everton debut by none other than Carlo Ancelotti.

As for Wharton, he is expected to be named in Thomas Tuchel's first England squad after impressing the German against Aston Villa last week.

Given his performances, Real Madrid are unlikely to have a free run at the midfielder should they decide to formalise their interest.

Man City had wanted to sign him in January only to move for Nico Gonzalez instead due to his injury, while Man Utd and Liverpool hold a tentative interest for the summer.
