FootballTransfers understands that Arsenal have held discussions with Real Sociedad over a summer move for the 26-year-old, with Mikel Arteta’s side willing to trigger the €60 million release clause in his current contract with the Basque outfit.
However, Real Madrid are also known admirers of Zubimendi and the Spaniard has now decided to prioritise a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
That is according to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, who has revealed that Zubimendi wants to join Real Madrid this summer after being informed of their plans for him.
Los Blancos were dumped out of the Champions League by Arsenal in midweek and the club are hoping to bring Zubimendi to the Spanish capital amid concerns over their ability to challenge the best teams in Europe with an attack that offers very little out of possession.

Martin Zubimendi to join Real Madrid?
Zubimendi has established himself as one of the best central midfielders in world football over the past few years and he is set to leave Real Sociedad this summer, with Arsenal and Real Madrid expected to battle each other for his signature.
Liverpool were interested in signing the 26-year-old last year, but Ryan Gravenberch’s form has ended their pursuit, while Manchester United are unlikely to land Zubimendi as things stand, despite rumours of a move to Old Trafford.
Zubimendi would likely partner Federico Valverde in a double pivot if he moves to Real Madrid this summer, with Aurelien Tchouameni, Luka Modric, Eduardo Camavinga and Dani Ceballos providing excellent strength in depth for Los Blancos.
