Chelsea in talks over UNIQUE summer transfer

Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund are in talks over extending Carney Chukwuemeka's loan for the Club World Cup, according to German media.
The Blues offloaded the England youth international to Germany after Enzo Maresca repeatedly made it clear that he wouldn't feature much under his leadership of the West London club.

Chukwuemeka had struggled with injuries and the constant coaching turnover at Stamford Bridge meant that he never managed to become a regular fixture in the side.
Borussia Dortmund pounced on his availability, loaning him until the end of the season. The Bundesliga side secured a purchase option for the 21-year-old, but it stands at a whopping €35 million, which would be a club-record fee for BVB.
Chukwuemeka has shown signs of promise, but his lack of match sharpness has seen his game time severely restricted. With Dortmund at serious risk of missing out on the Champions League, the German side have already decided that they won't make his stay permanent.

Dortmund in Chukwuemeka talks
Nevertheless, Dortmund have opened talks with Chelsea over the midfielder. According to Sky Germany, the subject of their negotiation is the Club World Cup this summer.
As the tournament has been shoehorned into the schedule for the end of the season, it overlaps with the expiration date of contracts, which includes loan contracts as well.

This means that players whose deals end on June 30 will become free agents halfway through the competition. Or, in the case of loan players, they will have to return to their parent clubs.
This also applies to Chukwuemeka, so Dortmund are currently in discussions with Chelsea over extending his loan deal until the end of the Club World Cup or, if they can secure favourable terms, for another season.
The report states that Dortmund 'expect' to have Chukwuemeka available for the entire tournament but concedes that it is not set in stone just yet.
