Chelsea have 'two secret weapons' in €100m transfer pursuit

Chelsea reportedly have two “secret weapons” in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens as they look to win the race for his signature amid significant competition from across Europe.

Enzo Maresca’s side are widely expected to sign a new left winger this summer, following Mykhailo Mudryk’s provisional suspension for doping, and they have identified Gittens as a key summer target.

Chelsea are also interested in signing both Nico Williams and Kenan Yildiz ahead of the new season, although FootballTransfers understands that Arsenal are leading the race for the former, while Juventus are set to demand a fee of roughly €100 million for the latter.

Early reports indicated that Dortmund had also set their asking price for Gittens at €100m, although German media have claimed that he could be available for around €60m as the Bundesliga giants are now open to a sale following his lack of game time under Niko Kovac.

The England U21 international was a key figure during the early months of the 2024-25 campaign, but he has only started two of Dortmund’s last nine Bundesliga matches and a summer exit is now on the cards.

Jamie Gittens to join Chelsea?

Gittens himself is eager to leave Dortmund in order to return to the Premier League, and Chelsea have two “secret weapons” that could allow them to sign him this summer.

That is according to TEAMtalk, who claim that Maresca’s side could include either Jadon Sancho or Carney Chukwuemeka in a swap deal bid for Gittens.

Sancho is set to join Chelsea on a permanent deal from Manchester United for €30m this summer, but could be shifted on immediately, while Chukwuemeka has spent the past few months on loan at Dortmund and his form has impressed the hierarchy at the Signal Iduna Park.

As a result, Chelsea reportedly have the option to offer Sancho or Chukwuemeka to Dortmund in exchange for Gittens.

It’s understood that both players are of interest to the Bundesliga giants and talks are expected to ramp up ahead of the 2025 summer transfer window as a lucrative swap deal edges closer.
