Chelsea nightmare gets WORSE as Maresca loses star he 'loves'

Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana will miss the remainder of the season and the Club World Cup after undergoing hamstring surgery.
The Frenchman's nightmare spell at Stamford Bridge continues to get worse. Earlier in the season, things appeared to finally be looking up for the oft-injured centre-back, but Fofana has once again suffered a massive blow.

The 24-year-old joined Chelsea in 2022 for a whopping €80.4 million, but to say that he has failed to repay that fee would be an understatement. After two season-ending knee injuries in his first two campaigns, Fofana was fully fit and an undisputed starter under Enzo Maresca early on.
The Italian was infatued with the Frenchman, stating that he was 'in love' with him for his performances. However, in December, he sustained a serious hamstring injury and there were fears that he could be out for the remainder of the season.
It quickly became clear that it initially wasn't quite as bad, yet now Fofana's 2024/25 campaign is already over anyway.

Fofana out after surgery
When he originally sustained his hamstring problem, it was announced that he thankfully would not require surgery. In fact, the centre-back actually returned to the pitch ahead of schedule, making his comeback against Leicester in early March.
However, after just two games, he was missing again. Chelsea have now announced that he has undergone belated hamstring surgery and will miss the remainder of the season, including the Club World Cup in the summer.

He was assessed by a specialist earlier in the week and it was decided that surgery was the best course of action. It begs the question, then, why Chelsea have only now reached this conclusion and not three months ago.
Either way, Fofana is now out again. All told, he has made just 34 appearances for Chelsea since joining in 2022.
