Ederson's assist record: Man City keeper better than Foden and Garnacho

Manchester City star Ederson is the goalkeeper with the most assists in Premier League history.

The Brazilian notched his record-extending fourth assist of the 2024/25 season in a 5-2 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday before having to be withdrawn from the match due to injury.

Ederson beat the entire Crystal Palace team with a line-breaking pass to James McAtee, who duly converted. No other Premier League goalkeeper had ever managed to record more than two assists in a single season. The 31-year-old is now on four.

It was also Ederson's seventh all-time league assist in English football, putting him ahead of Paul Robinson on five, David Seaman and Pepe Reina on four and Peter Schmeichel, Alisson, Tim Howard, Jussi Jaaskelainen and Mark Crossley on three.

This could be the shot-stopper's final season at Man City, but he is making sure that it is a memorable one despite his club's struggles.

Ederson compared to outfield players

Incredibly, at the time of writing, Ederson has more assists than a raft of high-profile Premier League attackers. For example, 2023/24 Player of the Season and teammate Phil Foden has so far only managed to set up two goals.

January signing Omar Marmoush, who has already scored six times, has only notched one assist, as has Jack Grealish. At Man Utd, star attacker Alejandro Garnacho has fewer assists than Ederson, while Arsenal stars Mikel Merino, Ethan Nwaneri and Kai Havertz also lag behind.

Marcus Rashford and Martin Odegaard have the same number of assists. €52 million Chelsea flop Joao Felix, farmed out to Milan, has only managed two assists across two different leagues this season.

Ederson has also set up his teammates more often than wonderkid Tyler Dibling, Sandro Tonali, Noni Madueke, Darwin Nunez and Mohammed Kudus, among a host of others.

Even Kylian Mbappe has only managed three assists so far in LaLiga this term, illustrating just how incredible an achievement Ederson's Premier League assist record really is.
