Chelsea may look to throw more money at one of their most pressing issues this summer, with Enzo Maresca eyeing a familiar face to begin the transfer window.

The Blues are expected to have another busy summer with both incomings and outgoings, having spent more than €1.5 billion on players since 2022, in the hopes of finally rejoining the Premier League’s elite sides.

Of their vast outlay, nearly €100 million has been spent on goalkeepers to little avail, with Maresca still uncertain over who his number one will be next season.

Chelsea will enter the summer with no fewer than EIGHT goalkeepers on their books and The Sun report that a ninth could be on the cards, with Leicester’s Mads Hermansen being considered as a target for the summer.

The 24-year-old was signed by Maresca during his sole season with the Foxes and was named in the Championship team of the season after leading Leicester to promotion.

Hermansen attracted the eye of Chelsea after saving a penalty from Cole Palmer earlier this season and the Blues reportedly believe they can ‘snatch a bargain’ by capitalising on Leicester’s relegation with a £35 million (€40m) deal for the Danish shotstopper.

Chelsea still seeking for answers to crowded goalkeeping spot

Chelsea had previously indicated that they would not look to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, instead relying on their previous acquisitions, although none of their options appear to have convinced Maresca of their credentials thusfar.

Robert Sanchez has been Maresca’s first choice for the majority of the season but a series of high-profile errors has seen the €23m man often replaced by cup goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, who was a €24.5m signing from Villarreal last summer.

However, Jorgensen has also failed to truly stake his claim for the number one spot, leading to Chelsea’s interest in Hermansen as well as Porto’s Diogo Costa, who has been linked with Manchester City.

Chelsea also spent €20m on teenager Mike Penders last summer but the Genk youngster is set to join affiliate Strasbourg on loan for next season, although Jorgensen could be offered to the Ligue 1 side as an alternative.

The Blues also have backup shotstoppers Marcus Bettinelli and Lucas Bergstrom on their books, as well as forgotten loanees Kepa Arrizabalaga and Dorde Petrovic, giving the club plenty to do to sort out the goalkeeping logjam this summer.
