CONFIRMED: Man Utd plot hijack of Arsenal target Joan Garcia

FootballTransfers can confirm that Manchester United have entered the race to sign Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, setting up a potential transfer tussle with Arsenal for the highly-rated 23-year-old this summer.
Arsenal had already made a €20 million bid for Garcia last summer, viewing him as an option between the posts following Aaron Ramsdale’s move to Southampton. No move ultimately materialised, but the Gunners' strong interest has remained.

Personal terms are fully agreed between Garcia and Arsenal, and while Espanyol initially stood firm on their insistence that his €30 million release clause be paid, sources indicate the Spanish club are now showing a willingness to lower their asking price.
However, Manchester United are preparing to hijack the move. Club sources revealed that United have identified Garcia as a potential replacement for Andre Onana, whose form has been under increasing scrutiny.
Onana, signed for £47 million from Inter in 2023, has struggled to find consistency and was at fault for both goals in the recent 2-2 Europa League quarter-final draw against Lyon.

Man Utd more attractive for Garcia?
Man Utd have yet to make an official approach but are confident Garcia would be open to the move, especially with the promise of immediate first-team football - something Arsenal cannot guarantee, having initially viewed him as a second-choice keeper.
What could potentially be crucial is that we are told that United are willing to outbid Arsenal’s original offer, which could sway both Espanyol and the player.

Garcia has impressed in La Liga with his composure, sharp reflexes, and ball-playing ability - qualities that appeal to both Premier League giants. For Arsenal, Garcia remains a long-term investment.
For United, he represents a potential immediate fix as Ruben Amorim considers reshuffling the goalkeeper department, which has increasingly given him headaches since his appointment in November.
