Fabrizio Romano says that Arsenal are on the verge of completing a signing that will delight fans of the Emirates club.

Mikel Arteta has led Arsenal to the semi-finals of the Champions League, in which they will face PSG, but they have fallen short once again in their quest to win the Premier League.

Numerous signings are expected in the summer in attack, with Viktor Gyokeres and Nico Williams two of the most prominent targets, but Arteta is also well aware of how important a solid foundation for his team is.

To that end, Arsenal are close to tying down Myles Lewis-Skelly to a new long-term deal, according to football transfer news reporter Romano.

“Talks between Arsenal and Myles-Lewis Skelly are underway as new deal is considered just matter of time,” Romano reported on X.

“Andrea Berta will lead the process with club and player very happy together, as Mikel Arteta considers Myles as a key piece for his team also in the future.”

FootballTransfers exclusively revealed that Lewis-Skelly is close to agreeing a five-year deal to remain with Arsenal.

Lewis-Skelly already shining

Lewis-Skelly has enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence this season, with the 18-year-old appearing on 31 occasions for Arteta’s side across all competitions.

He has notably recorded two Champions League assists against PSV and Real Madrid, while he famously scored in the Gunners’ 5-1 rout over Manchester City in the Premier League.

Although not the finished article, the teenager is seen as a long-term member of the first team, following the likes of Bukayo Saka and Ethan Nwaneri from the club’s Hale End Academy into the plans of Arteta.

With Kieran Tierney and Oleksandr Zinchenko set to leave in the summer, Lewis-Skelly’s importance in the squad will only grow, with the teenager earmarked as a backup option to Riccardo Calafiori at left-back.
