And Alexis Mac Allister is set to follow the example of Liverpool’s captain by rejecting the opportunity of going to the Champions League quarter-finalists.

"There’s nothing to comment,” Carlos Mac Allister, the player’s father, told winwin.

“Alexis is very happy at Liverpool and hopes to be crowned Premier League champion, then enjoy a break he didn’t get last year.

"It’s important to value and respect the institution he’s playing for, so any comment from us would be unnecessary.

"He has a contract until 2028. He’s happy at the club – let’s hope he stays there.”

Mac Allister’s value has exploded

Liverpool are well placed to retain Mac Allister due to the club’s excellent performances this season, with the former Brighton player at the heart of Arne Slot’s plans.

The 26-year-old has played 46 matches across all competitions, scoring six goals and adding a further five assists.

He has seen his value explode since completing a €42m move from Brighton in the summer of 2023, with his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) hitting a career high of €117m this month. This makes him the second most valuable defensive midfielder in the world.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, are linked with numerous big-name options ahead of the summer transfer window as they seek to improve their midfield options. Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, an international team-mate of Mac Allister for Argentina, is another named rumoured to be on their shortlist.
