With the news that Kevin De Bruyne is leaving the club in the summer, Pep Guardiola is seeking a new creative force for his side and has turned to former club Barcelona to provide that, with Pedri subject to transfer interest from the Premier League giants.

Man City are ready to launch a €200m bid for the 21-year-old, who will become the Premier League’s best-paid player should he accept a move, Fichajes reports.

Pedri has charged ahead of Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz as the main summer transfer target, with City said to be close to throwing the towel in for the Germany star.

Wirtz is thought to be close to completing a move to Bayern Munich, forcing Guardiola to look elsewhere for a playmaker to step into De Bruyne’s shoes.

The Man City boss sees Pedri as the “ideal fit” for his side, seeing him as a player who combines youth, quality and top-level experience.

A deal for Lamine Yamal was also explored, the Transfers Podcast revealed, but the teenager is set to sign a long-term deal with Barca.

Pedri no easy target

Barcelona will be reluctant to sell one of their prized assets, and as such the English side are preparing a move that the Camp Nou side will struggle to refuse.

A €200m offer will shatter the Premier League transfer record, eclipsing the €121m that Chelsea spent to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica, and will put Barca into a difficult position.

Pedri, who has not expressed any desire to leave Barcelona, has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €144m.

The Blaugrana will not be pressed into a sale, with the midfielder under contract at Camp Nou until 2030 and boasting a released clause of €1 billion that makes him unattainable in that fashion even to Man City.
