Alejandro Garnacho might have found the net for Manchester United against Newcastle United on Sunday in the Premier League, but that strike will not save the Argentine’s Old Trafford career.

Indeed, Man Utd seem more desperate than ever to sell Garnacho, who, along with Marcus Rashford, has struggled to impress new head coach Ruben Amorim.

Such is the eagerness for the Red Devils to see the 20-year-old South American, they have slashed the player’s asking price well below his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV), according to a report from Tuttomercatoweb.

Man Utd had Garnacho on the transfer list in January but a €60 million asking price was enough to ward off interest from Serie A club Napoli.

Now Italian reports indicate that Antonio Conte’s side are ready to revisit a deal, with the Red Devils have shaved Garnacho’s price to €45m.

Given that Garnacho has an ETV of €59.2m, this would appear to be a bargain.

Man Utd in a race to sell

United, meanwhile, are seeking to offload players before the end of June in order to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Cutting the price on Garnacho may, then, have come out of necessity to push through a sale, with TMW reporting that a transfer could be pushed through in a matter of weeks.

The form of the youngster has not been good enough to hold out for an astronomical fee, with Garnacho’s strike in Newcastle just the fifth he has managed in the Premier League this season.

On top of this, he finds himself in the rather embarrassing position of Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson having more assists in the league than him this term. He has just one to his credit.

As a ‘pure profit’ player in the eyes of the accountants, Garnacho is a particularly attractive player for United to sell, even if the decision is likely to be a controversial one with the club’s fans.
