Man Utd green light for Cunha AND Delap deals – but there’s one big worry

Manchester United are hopeful that deals for Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap can be wrapped up quickly, with the Old Trafford side seeking to strike early in the summer transfer market.

The Red Devils, though, face significant hurdles to clear in the case of both players, with Delap’s transfer stance, in particular, set to cause frustration amongst the Man Utd hierarchy.

Crucially, it is reported that funds are in place to sign both players, despite previous fears that United may need to sell in order to complete any lavish transfers.

Delap leaves Man Utd in limbo

Man Utd are ready to meet the release clause of both Wolves’ winger Cunha and Ipswich Town centre-forward Liam Delap.

Cunha is available for around €75m (£62.5m) while Delap is set to be sold for €35m (£30m) as Ipswich’s relegation triggers a clause in his deal.

Ruben Amorim’s side are now ready to act decisively in the transfer market.

Ben Jacobs reports: “Nothing done yet between Manchester United and Cunha. Brazilian wants the move, and Man Utd are optimistic. However, financials haven't been agreed or even discussed yet. Key meeting likely next week.

“United trying to do Cunha and Delap early, and able to fund both, before outgoings.”

But while the signs are looking very good for the Brazil international, who is said to "love" Man Utd, the situation with Delap is somewhat less clear.

Indeed, the former Manchester City academy player is set to frustrated the Old Trafford side as GiveMeSport claims that he wants to take his time before deciding upon his next club.

It reports that although United want their plans set in stone by the end of the season, he is “not giving anything away”.

Chelsea are said to be “quietly confident” that they have the edge over Man Utd in the race for Delap, with manager Enzo Maresca having worked with the player at City.
