Matheus Cunha is NOT Man Utd's top striker target

Liam Delap is Manchester United's top target for the striker position this summer, with Matheus Cunha viewed as a No.10 by the Old Trafford outfit.
The Red Devils made headlines on Monday evening when it emerged that they were making significant progress in talks with Cunha over a summer move.

The Brazil international has a €73 million release clause at Wolves, which means that Man Utd already have a clear understanding of the money required to sign him and have held talks with the player over personal terms.
Cunha is said to be keen on the move, and Man Utd potentially missing out on the Champions League is not considered a dealbreaker for the ambitious 25-year-old.
It could, however, make the deal significantly more difficult as Man Utd are currently not believed to have the necessary funds available to trigger his clause. The Athletic reports that 'there is scope for instalments' even though Wolves want the payment in full.
Man Utd want Cunha and Delap
The potential signing of Cunha will not complete Man Utd's attacking summer business. According to journalists Ben Jacobs and Laurie Whitwell, Cunha is viewed as more of a No.10 and not a centre-forward by the Red Devils hierarchy.
Man Utd still want to sign a No.9, and Liam Delap is the club's top target for the position, although he is not the only name under consideration. However, given his cost, he is obviously the favoured option.

With Ipswich all but guaranteed to get relegated, Delap will be available for just around €35 million this summer due to a release clause, making him significantly cheaper than the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen, Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko.
Despite this bargain fee, Man Utd will need to offload several players to be able to afford both Cunha and Delap. Loanees Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia are all expected to generate funds this summer.
