The Red Devils are currently languishing down in 14th place in the Premier League table, following a dismal campaign in the English top flight, and winning the Europa League is their only realistic chance of securing European football for next season.

Man Utd were held to a 2-2 draw by Olympique Lyonnais in the first-leg of their quarter-final tie last week and they host the Ligue 1 giants at Old Trafford on Thursday evening as they bid to book their place in the semi-finals.

Amorim has previously admitted that his side will be required to sell before they can buy this summer, and he has now revealed that Man Utd’s Europa League fortunes could have a major impact on their transfer business ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

What has Ruben Amorim said?

The Red Devils boss is eager to oversee a fairly sizable squad overhaul this summer, with the club hoping to sign a striker, a central midfielder and at least one wing-back.

However, Amorim has admitted that his side may need to win the Europa League in order to achieve their transfer goals.

Ahead of the second-leg clash against Lyon on Thursday, Amorim was asked about the importance that winning the competition would have on Man Utd’s summer transfer business.

“It is more about the budget,” he told reporters. “That is important when you are planning the next season. Champions League can change everything.”

Man Utd stand to earn roughly €100 million if they qualify for next season’s Champions Legaue, as per The Athletic, and with top target Victor Osimhen demanding an annual salary of €15m, that extra influx of cash could help them land the Nigeria superstar.
