The popular Austria international has walked from one nightmare into the next. After being forced to spend more than a year on the sidelines due to a serious injury, Alaba has been a shadow of his former self in recent games.

The 32-year-old has struggled to come to grips with the pace of elite football after such a long time on the treatment table, and this is obviously bad news for Real Madrid, who are in the midst of a hugely important run-in.

Just like manager Carlo Ancelotti, Alaba and fellow veterans Lucas Vasquez and Luka Modric are now fighting for their future at Real Madrid, according to AS. Performance levels have dropped and Los Blancos are considering making a radical change this summer.

Vasquez and Modric are both out of contract, while Alaba's deal expires next year. All three of them, however, could face the axe this summer should Real Madrid's slump continue.

Real Madrid go all-in on Huijsen

Real Madrid are desperate to refresh their squad in the upcoming transfer window and are expected to secure the signature of priority target Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Additionally, Los Blancos want to add a centre-back and a midfielder to their ranks this summer, with Dean Huijsen among the top options for the former role.

The Bournemouth wonderkid is being actively courted by Real Madrid, although transfer insider David Ornstein recently suggested that he is likely to remain in the Premier League.

This is because pretty much all of England's top clubs are chasing his signature this summer, including the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool. However, Real Madrid are well aware of the sway they hold over players, particularly Spanish ones like Huijsen.

The Dutch-born defender has already admitted that he is 'honoured' to be linked with Real Madrid, but the Spanish giants do have some concerns over his €60 million release clause.
