According to Gazzetta dello Sport, De Rossi previously held talks with Roma back in December when Wolves sacked Gary O’Neil.
Back then, Wolves opted to appoint Pereira instead but the Portuguese manager has failed to impress.
Wolves are only one place above the relegation zone in 17th place with nine games remaining.
They should be safe from relegation as Ipswich are nine points below them in 18th but Pereira has no chance of staying at the club.
The only question is whether Wolves sack Pereira now or wait until the end of the season.
Leggo claims that De Rossi is also wanted by a Spanish club and Saudi Arabian teams.
De Rossi is keen to return to management after his short spell at Roma.

De Rossi return to management
He lasted just eight months on the Roma bench as after a bright start, he lost the trust of the owners at the start of this season.
He previously managed SPAL in Serie B, while he was part of the Italy coaching team when they won Euro 2020.
De Rossi speaks English fluently and is keen on managing in the Premier League.
He is best remembered for a legendary playing career as a complete midfielder.
He made over 600 appearances for Roma over 19 years and won 117 caps for Italy, scoring 21 goals. De Rossi won the 2006 World Cup with the Azzurri and reached the Euro 2012 final.
