Manchester United target Antony 'is not 100% ready to play for Ajax', his coach has confirmed, as rumours of a transfer intensify, but Alfred Schreuder has a 'good feeling' the winger will stay

The Dutch champions faced Sparta on Sunday in the Eredivisie but Antony did not feature in the 1-0 victory.

United are reportedly lining up a huge offer for the wide player, with a full package likely to be worth in the region of €100m.

And as speculation that a move could be close intensifies, his coach Alfred Schreuder has confirmed that the player is not in a mental position to play football and as a result has been left out of the squad.

He said to ESPN NL: "I spoke to him and he indicated that he did not feel one hundred percent to be able to play.

"I only want to select players who have their minds one hundred percent with Ajax. It's a difficult situation, I'm honest about that. I've never been here myself."

Post-match Schreuder added that he wanted the club to take a firm stance on the deal and reiterated he hoped the player would stay.

He added: "Yes, my feeling is good. I understand Antony. But you play for Ajax. We are playing Champions League football. I don't think Manchester United are playing Champions League football.

"I want Antony to stay. I am assuming that the club will not sell him. The money that is being thrown around these days is crazy. But I would not find it okay if we sell another player. We are in a powerful position, financially."

Just last weekend Antony reiterated that he was happy at Ajax and would be content in staying, saying: "I'm very happy at Ajax, I have a contract until the summer of 2025 and will give everything for this wonderful club every second.

"It's not like I have to leave."

But it appears that the 22-year-old is now seeking a transfer and a move could be imminent.

FootballTransfers values Antony at €36m, making him one of the most valuable players in Dutch football.
