The Uruguay international is currently at Brazilian side Gremio, but he played his final game for the club this weekend and he said goodbye to their fans following a 1-0 win over Vasco de Gama.

That will be Suarez’s final home game in a Gremio shirt, although he may feature in their last game of the season - an away trip to Fluminense.

However, he will not be a Gremio player next season, with reports confirming that a deal with Inter Miami is currently being finalised.

The news was first reported by the Miami Herald and has been backed up by The Athletic, who have stated: “Nothing is completely sorted on what designation Suarez will hit the cap at, sources say.”

Inter Miami, who are owned by Manchester United legend David Beckham, allowed Josef Martinez to depart after the MLS regular season ended and it’s expected that Suarez will take his place in the starting XI in Florida.

The move will reunite Suarez with his former Barcelona team-mates Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, all of whom joined Inter Miami on free transfers this summer.

The ex-Liverpool and Ajax forward scored 24 goals and provided 17 assists in 52 games in all competitions for Gremio during the 2023 season, but recently revealed that he has been playing through pain this year.

He told Uruguay's 100% Deporte radio show on Monday, as per The Athletic: “The truth is that the first steps I take in the morning are very painful. Anyone who sees me thinks it is impossible for me to play a game. My son asks me to play with him and I am not able to.

“On the inside I have cartilage wear and that hits the bone. No liquid is generated but sometimes it gets stuck. Before games I take three pills and inject myself.”

Despite this, Suarez will join Messi at Inter Miami in 2024, something that has been heavily rumoured ever since the Argentina legend decided on his next destination following his Paris Saint-Germain exit.
