FC Dallas reach agreement to sign Darwin Nunez replacement - Fabrizio Romano
FC Dallas are set to secure a major new signing after reportedly reaching an agreement to sign Croatian striker Petar Musa from Portuguese giants Benfica.
The 25-year-old joined Benfica from Boavista in 2022, as they prepared for Darwin Nunez's exit, but he has failed to become a regular under Roger Schmidt, despite an impressive goal-scoring record.
Musa only amassed 1,111 minutes in all competitions during his debut season at Benfica, but he still scored 11 goals and provided three assists - a rate of a goal contribution every 79 minutes.
This campaign, it’s been a similar story as the Benfica man continues to be used as a sporadic option. The Croatian has six goals and two assists in 887 minutes in 2023-24 and he is set to bolster FC Dallas’ forward line ahead of the new MLS season.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano posted on X: “Dallas FC are set to sign Petar Musa as new striker from Benfica!
“Verbal agreement reached on €10m deal plus €3m add-ons, permanent move for Musa to join MLS.
“Medical booked early next week then time to sign. Here we go, soon.”
Petar Musa to replace Jesus Ferreira?
Nico Estevez’s FC Dallas side finished seventh in the Western Conference in 2023 after picking up 46 points in 34 games.
USMNT star Jesus Ferreira was their starting striker last campaign, but he has been heavily linked with a mega move to Spartak Moscow in recent days.

Dallas reportedly accepted a $13 million offer for Ferreira, but the MLS stepped in to prevent the deal from progressing, according to The Athletic.
It has been reported that FC Dallas were informed there are risks for American business entities conducting deals with Russian entities, which is why the league took drastic action.
FC Dallas’ first game of the new MLS season takes place against San Jose in late February.
