REVEALED: MLS club in Pogba talks as Adidas factor tipped to count

Paul Pogba is in talks to sign with an MLS club, it has been revealed.
The 2018 World Cup winner has been able to return to competitive football following a ban for taking a performance-enhancing drug for more than two months but has so far been unable to find a team willing to take him on.
Pogba has not played a full 90-minute match since featuring for Juventus in March 2022, but the former Manchester United star is eager to restart his professional career even at the age of 32.
In April, he claimed in an interview with GQ France that he had “offers coming in from all over the place” but said he would take his time before picking his next destination.
It has now been revealed by The Washington Post that the player is being seriously courted by DC United. The report claims that the franchise has the discovery rights to Pogba and is the only MLS side authorised to speak with him.
Le Parisien reports that Jason Levien, the general manager of DC United, has held meetings with the midfielder over a potential deal.
If no agreement can be found with the Washington franchise, DC United could trade his rights to another club but a source close to the deal said: “Jason wants to do everything to make Pogba sign.”
Pogba would take up a vacant Designated Player slot with DC United, who already have Christian Benteke and Mateusz Klich on their books.
Adidas fuelling Pogba’s American dream?
Although there are options elsewhere in Europe and the Middle East, according to reports, Adidas are likely to be eager to push Pogba to MLS.
The sportswear manufacturer is a major partner of the US league and also have a major agreement with the player. Pogba’s deal with Adidas is reputed to be worth $44 million over 10 years and was signed in 2016.
He previously sent a message on Instagram that seemed to suggest he will be back on the field soon.
“I’m training alone, but I never give up and I have also chased the dreams I want to accomplish,” he said, promising: “I’ll see you very soon.”
Although the next MLS transfer window doesn’t open until 24 July, Pogba can join DC United at any time due to his status as a free agent.
