Cody Gakpo netted his third goal in three World Cup games in the Netherlands' 2-0 win over Qatar, which helped secure his nation's place at the top of Group A.

Gakpo, 23, has now scored in every group game during the tournament so far, meaning he is currently tied with Enner Valencia and Kylian Mbappe as the World Cup's top goal-scorer as things stand.

The forward typically operates as a left winger at club level but has been used as a No.10 and a central striker by Louis van Gaal during the competition, and has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United.

The Red Devils were linked with a move for Gakpo in the summer but decided against signing him. However, having terminated Cristiano Ronaldo's contract, the Old Trafford side are in need of additional attackers.

Youngster Alejandro Garnacho has become a more frequent presence in the side, but there's still a sense that Man Utd want to sign Gakpo in January to reinforce their forward line.

Gakpo has scored 13 goals and assisted a further 17 in just 24 appearances in all competitions for PSV this term, and those numbers have enticed the biggest clubs in the Premier League into pursuing a move, including Liverpool and Arsenal.

However, Man Utd are very much interested and see Gakpo as a solution to their attacking woes.
