Robert Lewandowski could be on his way to Barcelona this summer, with head coach Xavi confirming that there are transfer talks with the Bayern Munich attacker.

The Poland international has been increasingly touted as a potential summer arrival at Camp Nou, with the Catalan side eager to boost their attacking options over the coming transfer window.

Indeed, Lewandowski is well recognised as the best pure goal scorer in football presently, having scored 153 goals in 133 appearances for Bayern over the course of the last three seasons.

He has already announced that he has no intention of extending his contract at the Allianz Arena, which ends in 2023. This summer, therefore, represents the last opportunity that Bayern can cash in on a player who controversially lost out on the 2021 Ballon d'Or to Lionel Messi. It is a situation that Barca are seeking to profit from.

“It is a possibility he could come, yes,” Xavi told the media on Saturday. “There are negotiations. But it won’t be easy. He has a one-year contract with Bayern.”

Will Bayern sell Lewandowski?

Bayern Munich, though, are unlikely to give Lewandowski up for transfer easily. Indeed, CEO Oliver Kahn has spoken forcefully that No.9 will not be sold this summer and will instead see out his contract at the Bundesliga champions. Honourary president Uli Hoeness, meanwhile, has said that the striker is "100 per cent" not joining Barca.

In reality, though, Bayern will be forced to sell should they receive a big offer from Barcelona. It has been reported that Barca have already fielded a €40 million bid for Lewandowski that was knocked back.

It is likely to take an offer in the region of €60m for Bayern to start considering a sale of the 33-year-old striker, who FootballTransfers values as being worth around €50m.

The transfer to Barcelona is one that Lewandowski is seemingly eager to make, with the veteran hitman ready to take a huge paycut in order to move to the Spanish side, where he is seeking a new challenge late in his career.
