Hazard offered Madrid exit as shock contender to sign him emerges
Real Madrid and Eden Hazard have seen the door open to another transfer possibility in January.
Hazard moved to Los Blancos in 2019 from Chelsea, but after a mega switch has struggled to catch light in Spain due to a succession of injury problems.
Boasting huge wages that Madrid want off their books, the Belgium international star is one of several players that the club is actively seeking to move on ahead of the January transfer window.
Few clubs have put themselves forward as serious contenders to sign Hazard, though Chelsea had been linked with a possible transfer – a deal that would be surprising in light of the squad strength.
Nevertheless, owner Roman Abramovich has reportedly grown frustrated by Madrid’s pursuit of Antonio Rudiger and, as such, is ready to pull the plug on any move for Hazard, which would help facilitate the Spaniards’ pursuit of the Germany star.
Another Hazard contender emerges
If the possibilities of Hazard departing appear to be growing slim, Lille have thrown their name into the ring to complete a January move.
“A return of Hazard to Lille? It’s not impossible. I’ll go to Spain if necessary,” Olivier Letang, president of the Ligue 1 champions, told L’Equipe du Soir.
“It could appear something impossible. Evidently, Hazard is an incredible player with a lot of quality.
“Now, he is a Real Madrid player and he is under contract with Real Madrid.”
Hazard started his career with the French club, spearheading their charge to their previous Ligue 1 title in 2010/11 before moving to Chelsea 12 months later.
Lille, however, will struggle financially to complete a move. Despite their qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League, they are set to sell players in January.
One of the players who could depart is Jonathan Ikone, who is linked with Fiorentina. Hazard would be a like-for-like upgrade on the field, but his monstrous wages mean that the prospects of a deal are slim.
