Paris Saint-Germain’s discontent with the form of Neymar has been such that they have offered the Brazil star to Barcelona, according to reports in France.

Neymar was booed during Sunday’s 3-0 Ligue 1 win over Bordeaux at Parc des Princes, having been earmarked as a figurehead of the struggling side that lost out in the Champions League round of 16 against Real Madrid last weekend.

Indeed, his whole season has been a catastrophic one. He has been troubled by injury and has managed just five goals in 20 appearances.

Following the weekend incidents, reports broke that Neymar, along with Sergio Ramos, is ready to hand in a transfer request to PSG, and the feeling appears to be mutual, with the Ligue 1 side ready to offload the player.

FootMercato reports that PSG have offered the 30-year-old attacker to “several European clubs in recent weeks”, including Barcelona.

Neymar has previously pushed to return to the Camp Nou side, even explaining in a Netflix documentary: “I tried to come back to Barca. I tried everything but it was not possible.”

Why do PSG want to sell Neymar?

PSG want to transfer Neymar away for several reasons, the foremost of which is his poor form. Combine this, though, with his huge salary and it is evident that he is not doing nearly enough to justify his status in the squad.

Furthermore, Neymar is a player who expects to start on a weekly basis but is not performing at that standard. By getting rid of him, it solves a problem for the coach who will surely replace Mauricio Pochettino in the summer.

Can Barcelona afford Neymar?

Probably not. It would take significant sacrifices for Barcelona to welcome Neymar back into their fold due to his huge wage demands, which total around €30 million per year net. Even if PSG were to pay a chunk of his salary, Barca are likely to have other targets in mind who would be a better bet to enhance their squad.

President Joan Laporta has admitted that they are set to be priced out of a move for Erling Haaland, and Neymar is unlikely to come much cheaper.
